The State Examining Board voted Tuesday afternoon to revoke the license of Darrell Dickinson, President of Dickinson Family Funeral Homes of La Crosse. The Board had been considering disciplinary measures against Dickinson Family Funeral Homes, Darrell Dickinson and Gary Sebranek since their conviction on public assistance fraud in August of this year.
The board further required that Darrell Dickinson sell his interest in the Dickinson Family Funeral Homes. In addition, Dickinson Family Funeral Homes must hire a “funeral director in charge” from outside the firm to run the day to day operations and be accountable to the state examining board for a period of two years. Also, Brian Dickinson received a reprimand from the board for his role in the fraud case even though he was not charged in the criminal case.
The Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association applauds the decision of the State Examining Board to protect Wisconsin funeral consumers and the State of Wisconsin from these dishonest licensees. This case shows the clear public interest in licensing the activities and responsibilities of funeral directors. Thanks to the State Examining Board it is clear that the high standards of the funeral directors license will be enforced, and this type of dishonest and deceitful behavior will not be tolerated within this profession.
