Death of James Crandall

James Clifford Crandall, 87 of Mauston died Thursday, November 13, 2008.

Jim was born in Richland Center, WI on September 28, 1921 to Clifford and Edna (Oas) Crandall.

He graduated from Mauston High School, the Class of 1939. He received his funeral directors and embalmers license in 1947, following service in the U.S. Army during World War II as an M.P. from 1942 -1945.

He married Bonnie Olson on June 20, 1946 in Mauston. Jim worked for his father in the Crandall & Sons Furniture and Funeral Home from 1945 to 1963 when he purchased Crandall Funeral Home from his father and operated it until his retirement in 1986. Jim provided ambulance service to the community from 1946 until 1970.

Jim was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Mauston, serving on the building committee when the new church was built, an associate member of East Lemonweir Lutheran Church, Elroy, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Valley of Madison Scottish Rite, Zor Shrine Temple, Zor Shrine Midgets, Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association, serving as President of Western District, and serving on the Board of Directors, the National Funeral Directors Association, American Legion, VFW, 40 et 8, a charter member of GMADC, Sons of Norway, IOOF, Juneau County Historical Society and Versterheim. Jim also served on the Mauston Police and Fire Commission for 25 years.

Jim was an avid golfer and sportsman.

Jim is survived by his wife Bonnie, son Clifford (Andy) Crandall, two sisters Jean (Arthur) Baldwin, Mary (Richard) Balzar and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leslie (Billie) and Donald (Bea) Crandall, one nephew, Gerald Crandall.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, November 17, 2008 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Mauston.

Burial will be at the Mauston Cemetery with military honors.

Friends may call on Sunday, November 16th from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Crandall Funeral Home, Mauston where Masonic Memorial Services will be held at 6:45 P.M. and on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, Bethany Lutheran Church Memorial Foundation or a charity of your choice.
