UPDATE: Everest Accuses Funeral Homes of Violating Funeral Rule
As noted in last week's NFDA Bulletin, NFDA received reports from funeral homes in Wisconsin that received letters from Everest, a “funeral concierge service,” accusing them of being “unwilling to comply with [their] legal obligations under the Federal Trade Commission Funeral Rule” because they did not respond to Everest's “repeated attempts to obtain pricing information.” According to funeral homes that received a letter, Everest never contacted them for pricing information.
NFDA has since learned that members in Illinois, New York, Minnesota, Texas, New Jersey and other states received similar letters. On Friday, December 19, NFDA took action to report what appears to be a pattern of false claims. Click here to read a copy of the letter NFDA General Counsel Scott Gilligan sent to Everest, the Federal Trade Commission and state licensing boards.
If you received a letter from Everest, but feel fairly certain Everest has not contacted you for price information, please contact Gilligan by email or phone (513-871-6332). You can also call your personal NFDA member services representative at 800-228-6332 with your questions or concerns.
