DEATH OF BILL DOWNS, JR.

Bill Downs, Jr., died peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2009 with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.  His survivors include his wife Jeanne and their children, all of whom reside in Superior, daughter Lorinda (Tom) Ledin, sons William (Diane) Downs III and David Downs. 

            A lifelong resident of Superior, he was a third generation owner and operator of the Downs LeSage and Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Homes and was a licensed funeral director in the State of Wisconsin for over 50 years.

Bill’s memberships included board member and former executive officer of Northern District Funeral Directors Association, 50-year member of Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association, National Selected Morticians, and National Funeral Directors Association of which he held several chairman positions.  Bill served as WFDA President in 1971.  His son, William Downs, III, also served as WFDA President. 

Visitation will be from 3:00 - 9:00 PM on Friday, January 16, 2009 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior, WI.  Visitation will continue at 9:30 AM, Saturday, January 17, 2009 in Concordia Lutheran Church until the 11:00 AM funeral service.  If you have questions, please contact the funeral home at 715- 392-2139.
